What You Will Do
Role Description
As a Senior Metrology Engineer, you will drive design, development, and validation of our precision motion and measurement systems. Your work will focus not only on mechanical motion accuracy but also on establishing and refining metrology methods to ensure that our devices and production processes meet stringent performance, throughput, and robustness requirements. You will have the opportunity to work at the forefront of nanomaterial-based semiconductor and quantum device manufacturing, bridging the gap between mechanical design, substrate metrology, and production processes.
Responsibilitites
- Design:
- Assist our in-house mechanical design team, by advising them on the application of concepts, that will improve the measurement accuracy of the overall system.
- Develop an optimized meteorology concept for our systems, allowing to overcome precision bottle-necks.
- Validation:
- Conduct experiments to collect measurement data in accordance with established standards, enabling accurate characterization of system performance.
- Prepare detailed measurement reports that clearly link observations to underlying causes, quantify contributions through error budgets, and propose appropriate corrective actions.
- Collaboration:
- Work closely with our system engineers to make the metrology concept more resilient and compatible with our equipment.
- Engage with industry peers, suppliers, and customers to stay informed on evolving demands and the latest technological advancements.
Your Profile
Background
- Master’s degree or higher in Mechanical, Optical, Photonics Engineering or related fields.
- 5+ years of industrial experience in the development of measurement systems and microscopy techniques.
- Strong foundation in optics, sensors, instrumentation, and machine vision for the alignment of semiconductor substrates or alike.
- Exposure to motion systems for the semiconductor applications is a plus.
Skills & Qualifications
- Technical skills:
- Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of precision measurement systems, including interferometry, microscopy, optical profilometry, machine vision, and encoder technologies.
- Experience in applying calibration standards and estimating the uncertainty of measurement.
- Skilled in designing experiments, collecting measurement data and performing comprehensive error budgeting.
- Basic proficiency in data acquisition, analysis, and visualization tools (e.g., Python, MATLAB, or similar).
- Mindset:
- Goal-oriented, structured and reliable working style for theoretical and experimental tasks alike.
- Comfortable with hands-on lab tasks and technical problem-solving.
- Curious and eager to learn in a fast-paced start-up setting.
- Collaboration:
- Strong communication skills in English; German a plus.
- Ability to work with interdisciplinary teams across physics, software, and hardware.
